Few things are certain. Life, death, and the need for delicious road trip snacks are the only things I know to be definite.

I’ve spent the last couple of weekends traveling from Kansas City to Oklahoma and back and then from Kansas City to St. Louis and back.  While I’ve been at this vegan game for a bit (TWO YEARS TODAY!), I recognized that finding quick and easy and also delicious snacks might be a bit confusing for those of you who are newer to this game.

With that in mind, I set a timer for five minutes to see how many vegan finds I could locate in a gas station during a quick stop on one of our road trips. Here’s what I came up with in just a few minutes. I’ve also included some additional items to be on the lookout for to satisfy all of your cravings.


Véa World Crisps Tuscan Herbs

Véa Mini Crunch Bars in Thai Coconut and Véa World Crisps Tuscan Herbs

Blaze Doritos*

*Be aware that original Nacho Cheese and Cooler Ranch Doritos contain milk

Ritz Salt & Vinegar Crisp & Thins

Other savory/crunchy/salty options to look for: plain or bbq potato chips, peanuts, sunflower seeds, peanut butter crackers, popcorn (butter free). Of course make sure to double check ingredients!

Sweet Treats: 

Oreos (Double Stuf, Original, Golden, Mint, or Lemon are ALL vegan)

Nutter Butter Peanut Butter Cookies

Fig Newtons

Nature’s Bakery Fig Bars

BelVita Blueberry or Cinnamon Brown Sugar Crisps

Awake Caffeinated Chocolate

If you get a chance to try this chocolate, DO IT, especially if you’re the person driving on the road trip. They claim that one bar of this chocolate is equal to the caffeine in a cup of joe. While I can’t vouch for that, I can say that this chocolate bar was delicious and I didn’t fall asleep while I was driving. It tasted more like milk chocolate than some of the bars I’ve had since going vegan, so I’ll definitely be stocking up the next time I see these.

Other sweet treats to keep an eye open for: Skittles, Swedish Fish, Jolly Ranchers, Air Heads, Twizzlers, Smarties. You can also find single serving vegan cereal that you can have with or without your dairy-free milk.

Healthy-ish Options: 

Clif Bar (Most Clif Bars are vegan, but double check)

Nut Butter Filled Clif Bar

Fruit Cup

Kashi Go Lean Plant Powered Bars


Pretzels and Hummus


Other healthy or healthy-ish options you might find at your gas station: fresh fruit such as bananas and apples, trail mix, or whole wheat crackers
